Villa il Cerretino description

Villa Il Cerretino is located in the heart of Tuscan hills surrounding Poggio a Caiano just 20 minutes away from the tourist buzz of Florence and offers an exceptional scenic view over the city known as the cradle of Renaissance.

The Villa is named after the small surrounding forest of thriving oaks (the word Cerri is an ancient dialecticway to indicate oak trees). The unusual layout of the Villa encompassing a central courtyard and typical elements of the fortifications (like the circular corner turrets and the walls) along its strategic location, overlooking the road between Florence and Pistoia, give credit to the story that the entire building was built on the ruins of the Torrebecchi-Strozzi fortress, conquered and destroyed in 1325 by the troops of Castruccio Castracani during an attempt to conquer the nearby city of Carmignano.

The architecture recalls the military ramparts of late 15th century yet tempered by features attributable to the rural and noble villas of the 16th and 17th century. In the 15th century the building belonged to the Bini family (several coat of arms are still hanging on the wall of one tower and of the villa) before being acquired by the Medici family to which is linked the infamous story of the Villa set by Grand Duke Francesco I as Bianca Cappello's residence, a Venetian noblewoman who was first his mistress and then became his second wife.

Villa Il Cerretino has recently been refurbished and can put up to 14 guests. The 5 rooms and the suite all equipped with A/C, telephone and Wi-Fi, are finely decorated in accordance with Tuscan tradition yet paying attention to spaciousness.

Guests can in fact appreciate that art and design compatibly coexist within main areas and rooms alike in a seamless interaction that conveys a modern and inspiring approach. The furniture has been designed and crafted by Poltronova in the 70's. The gardens reflect the project devised by Porcinai (regarded as one of the XXth Century's most eminent landscape architect) while the exteriors bear Guido Morozzi's hallmark who chaired the Special Agency for the Conservation of Historical Buildings wthin the Superintendence of Florence. Beside, Italian Pop Art works, which encompass Valerio Adami and Mario Ceroli plus Barni, Buscioni and Ruffo who belonged to the School of Pistoia are displayed throughout the main building and can be enjoyed at time.
Picturesque twists and styles contamination are also perceivable within relax areas that are
available to guests looking for a place to unwind.

Modernity juxtapose flawlessly with historicity of a complex that has been capable of hiding for centuries mysteries pertaining to the Medici age and a secret passage located somewhere that played a pivotal role in many of them.

A large Tuscan-style kitchen with fireplace, communal dining rooms and a superb newly renovated
swimming pool are available to guests. Additional equipment and accommodation for babies and children is available upon request.
