Casa Madera - Papaya Playa description

This large, private, oceanfront house claims for its entire estate some 750m2 of pristine jungle. The casa emerges from the dense natural greenery to stand free on high rocks deep breathing fresh winds of the Caribbean. An intricate piece of beach architecture constructed primarily of wood, the building is irrefutably one of the most unique, meaningful, and comfortable accommodations in Riviera Maya.

With a nod to the notion of raw-luxury and vernacular building style, the house boasts of its enormous reasonably furnished, lively decorated, and properly equipped living room with a facade-wide floor-to-ceiling view to infinity and a spacious self-contained master bedroom unit - not to diminish the value of the second large bedroom appointed with two beds and a private bathroom.

Other spaces of Casa Madera are given to quaintly curved multilevel terraces, an open-air dining room, fully-equipped kitchenette with a service access, and common bathroom. The ground area - the outdoor flat space reaching from underneath the house toward the beach - accommodates a large plunge pool with amenities, barbecue setup complete in stones, and, further toward the water, two beach palapitas with hanging sun beds.

The "wooden house" is the outcome of collaboration by a number of architects, engineers, landscape designers and interior decorators united in their vision of home (temporary or otherwise) as an organic continuum, living space intimately interlinked with nature and culture. These two forces charge the structure with extraordinary energies - physical and symbolic - the effect of which is pleasantly astonishing.

The beach house has this axiological dimension - in line with the overarching cultural mission of the Papaya Playa Project: While serving its most immediate purpose - making guests' experience of the rooms intensely enjoyable - the interior of Casa Madera is an ample showcase of traditional arts and crafts collected around Mexico, coming primarily from the artisans' villages of Quintana Roo. In view of high hospitality with its conceptual emphasis on meaningful experience as much as on exceptional comfort, the goal is to preserve and promote the indigenous culture(s), knowledge and skills passed down through generations. Some objects in the interior are listed in a special catalogue and can be purchased by guests.

Casa Madera is an ideal residence for families and small groups of friends - 4 or 5 persons. The living space of the property is expandable upon request with inclusion of 3 terraced double-bed climate-controlled cabanas with private bathrooms. The house and 3 adjacent cabanas combined constitute the Casa Madera holiday estate.
